Chemistry IB DP Course 1st Year
Duration: 80 min Language: English
Service Description
1. Structure (Matter's nature from simple to complex) These topics are often prioritized in the first year as they provide the conceptual groundwork: Models of Particulate Nature of Matter: Introduction to states of matter, the nuclear atom, electron configurations, the mole concept, and ideal gases. Models of Bonding and Structure: Detailed study of ionic, covalent, and metallic bonding, as well as intermolecular forces and material properties. Classification of Matter: The periodic table, periodic trends, and functional groups in organic compounds. 2. Reactivity (How and why reactions occur) First-year studies usually begin with these foundational reaction principles: What Drives Chemical Reactions? Enthalpy changes (endothermic vs. exothermic), energy cycles (Hess's Law), and energy from fuels. How Much, How Fast, and How Far? Stoichiometric amounts of change, chemical kinetics (reaction rates and collision theory), and chemical equilibrium. What are the Mechanisms of Chemical Change? Proton transfer (acids/bases), electron transfer (redox processes), and electron-sharing reactions.
